Congratulatory messages from:
NGS Executive Director, Professor Moore,
“I am delighted to be able to say a few words today to all NGS scholars who are graduating with a PhD. I can more or less guarantee that you will be experiencing a range of emotions today, undoubtedly - pleasure, most certainly – relief and perhaps, just perhaps a tinge of regret that the exciting life of being an NGS scholar is now behind you!! The last few years for all of you will have been filled with moments of joy interspersed with periods when the hours were very long, experiments did not work and you really began to wonder whether it was all worthwhile. Well, today proves that it was.
Your PhD has been a journey. Your goal has, until now, been focused and simple – to finish the work, complete the oral exam and be awarded the PhD. But in a few years time you will begin to realize, or at least I did, that it’s not really the destination which is so valuable in your future career but how you ‘made the trip’. In other words, what you learnt along the way about how to do science, how to present it to other people and of course, how to deal with all of those disappointments and successes along the way. This is truly what a PhD is all about.
So – congratulations, enjoy today and may I, and everyone in the NGS family, wish you much success in the years ahead.”
NGS Deputy Executive Director, Professor Ding Jeak Ling,
"Dear 2017 graduates, the NGS family warmly congratulates you. We are so very proud of you and we wish you all a great future. The strong and unique training has prepared you for a bright scientific career. You have, not only survived the grueling training, you managed to thrive and flourish; the world is under your feet. Look forward to your Postdoctoral years boldly; enjoy each day and continue to excel. Keep the NGS flag flying and keep in touch with us. We continue to celebrate your success and accolades.”
NGS Deputy Executive Director, Associate Professor Tang Bor Luen,
“Congrats, class of 2017, you have done well. You are a unique breed of scientist and engineers, at the frontiers of human knowledge and pushing it with your multidisciplinary skills. The sky is not the limit, be bold and go beyond. The world is at your feet, but remember to bend down every now and then so that you could touch it.”
