6th Annual NGS Symposium

Sharing from his own rich and varied experiences, the keynote speaker - Professor Paul Matsudaira, Head of Department of Biological Sciences, co-director of the Mechanobiology Institute and Director of Centre for Bioimaging Sciences – gave an inspiring and motivating talk on how one acquires knowledge of a different field to better tackle scientific questions of his/her own’s fields, in order to achieve inter-disciplinarity in research.

A total of 10 oral and 23 poster presentations by NGS students, covering and bridging topics ranging from biological sciences to intelligent systems. Students succeeded in putting up simple, straight-forward and jargon-less presentations, that were very well-received and understood by students across diverse fields. Best Presentation: awarded to Abhijeet Patra (NGSS Aug ‘11), for his research on “Lipid Fraction Enrichment” Best Poster: awarded to Sasidharan Swarnalatha Lucky (NGSS Aug ‘11), for her poster “Near-Infrared Excitable Core-Shell Structured Upconversion Nanoparticles for Enhanced Photocatalytic Ablation of Cancer Cells”
